From there, they footed it to the Atascocita Crossing of the Colorado River, where they reunited with their brother Rawson. Abram married Nancy Millar in 1835, and together, they played a pivotal role in the early years of Texas history.

During the Texas Revolution, Abram served as a volunteer guard under Captain William Walker. His most notable contribution was escorting women and children to safety from the advancing Mexican Army during the event known as the Runaway Scrape. After the revolution, Abram and Nancy returned to rebuild their cabin, marking a fresh start for their family and community.
