In response to this setback, the Air Force Armament Museum Foundation (AFAMF) was established as a non-profit organization to spearhead efforts for a new facility. By mid-1985, significant fundraising efforts resulted in $1.2 million being raised, enabling the construction of a new 28,000 square foot museum. This new structure was deeded to the United States Air Force and officially opened to the public in November 1985.
