Current Exhibit: Commemorative Cardboard
From September 20, 2023, the McGrath Gallery will host an exciting exhibition titled “Commemorative Cardboard,” featuring artists Carrie Neumayer and Ethan Osman. This exhibition opens with a reception from 5 to 7 pm and includes a screening of over 25 short films, alongside an extensive display of artifacts demonstrating their artistic processes.
Artists’ Backgrounds
Neumayer and Osman met in 2019 and quickly formed a creative partnership rooted in a shared dedication to exploring the intricacies of artistic processes. Ethan Osman earned his BFA in animation from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2006. His work consistently investigates how materials can highlight the artistic process itself. Carrie Neumayer, on the other hand, is a multifaceted artist with a BFA in painting from the Art Academy of Cincinnati and two Master’s degrees, one in Art Education and another in Art Therapy from the University of Louisville.
Neumayer initially contributed music to Osman’s films but soon became inspired to create her own animations, learning from Ethan himself. This collaboration led to their shared project, “Commemorative Cardboard,” which celebrates the beauty of inexpensive and accessible materials, as well as the value found in imperfection.
