As a museum and research organization, the IAAS works tirelessly to document the significant impact of Irish Americans on the cultural landscape of Cleveland.
A Rich History
One of the notable landmarks associated with the IAAS is the Johnny Kilbane Sculpture, titled “Fighting Heart.” This piece was dedicated ten years ago in Battery Park, situated in Cleveland’s Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood. This sculpture commemorates the legacy of Irish American boxers, the most famous being Johnny Kilbane, who was a world champion and a local hero.
Honoring Excellence with the Walks of Life Award
Since 1997, the IAAS has celebrated the achievements of 131 distinguished individuals of Irish descent through the Walks of Life Award. This prestigious recognition highlights the diverse accomplishments of those from various walks of life. In collaboration with the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History, the IAAS has been actively compiling biographical entries for deceased awardees. By the end of 2024, they aim to submit 48 encyclopedia entries, documenting these influential figures in a scholarly manner.
The IAAS Podcast Series: “Finding Home”
