The Peel House Foundation, home to the Peel Museum & Botanical Garden, is a cherished historical landmark in Bentonville, Arkansas. Built in 1875, this Italianate residence reflects the rich heritage of the area and offers visitors a glimpse into the past. As we approach its 150th anniversary in 2025, the foundation is dedicated to preserving this iconic site for future generations.

A Rich History

The museum is named after Samuel West Peel, a lawyer and farmer, who prominently contributed to the community. After the Civil War, he and his wife, Mary Emaline Berry, settled in Bentonville. The couple’s enduring love story inspired the construction of their home, as Samuel promised Mary a house reminiscent of her childhood in Alabama. This promise materialized into a stunning structure featuring 14 rooms, two stories, a basement, and a distinctive tower.

The bricks used in this historic home were supplied by John Braithwaite, the owner of Bentonville’s first brickyard. The careful craftsmanship and architectural elegance of the Peel Museum make it one of the town’s oldest and most significant buildings.

Leave Your Mark

To further the mission of the Peel Compton Foundation, visitors and community members can participate in a special initiative by purchasing a customized brick paver. This campaign aims to sell 1,000 bricks, with each brick prominently displayed on the sidewalks of the Peel grounds. This paver campaign serves as a beautiful way to memorialize loved ones, honor special individuals, celebrate anniversaries, or simply show support for the Peel Museum & Botanical Garden. Proceeds will directly contribute to the preservation of this treasured site.
