The Melody Ranch Motion Picture Museum, located in Newhall, California, is a treasure trove of cinematic history. Since its inception in 1915, this iconic studio has been a backdrop for countless western films, captivating audiences with thrilling stories and larger-than-life characters.
A Rich Film History
The journey of Melody Ranch began when Monogram Studios produced a staggering 750 “B” westerns at this location. In 1952, the ranch became the proud property of singing cowboy Gene Autry. Under Autry’s ownership, legendary actors such as William S. Hart, Gary Cooper, and John Wayne filmed their most memorable performances here. However, in 1962, tragedy struck when a fire devastated the main western street, bringing an end to an era.
A New Beginning
After Autry maintained the ranch for years, it was sold to the Veluzat brothers in 1990. They undertook the incredible task of restoring the western street, reviving the spirit of the Melodic Ranch. Today, visitors can explore a massive western town that boasts various interiors of a saloon, bank, jail, general store, hotel, church, school, livery stable, and theatre.
