The Tehachapi Museum and the Errea House & Garden are open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 PM to 4 PM. You can find the museum at 310 South Green Street, Tehachapi, CA 93561. This central location makes it easily accessible for both locals and visitors.

The Errea House: A Historical Gem

Among the museum’s highlights is the Errea House, notable for being the oldest residence in the Tehachapi area. Originally built in the 1870s in Tehichipa, the house was relocated to its current site around 1900 using log rollers. This beautifully preserved building is furnished to replicate a typical home from the early 1900s to the early 1940s. It has also earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places, underscoring its significance.

Milano Gallery and Settlers’ Gazette

Inside the Tehachapi Museum, visitors can explore the Milano Gallery, which features a remarkable collection of Kawaiisu baskets crafted by several local artisans. These baskets, historically used for various everyday tasks by the Kawaiisu people, showcase the artistry and utility of Native craftsmanship. Additionally, the Settler’s Gazette serves as the League’s newsletter, published quarterly. It contains valuable historical information, reports on Heritage League activities, and other items of interest, available to members both via email and online.
