Settler Series 2024-2025: Hand-Arts Classes
For over 53 years, Settlers, Inc. has been celebrating the stories of local pioneers through their popular Settler Series. The 2024-2025 season features an exciting lineup of Hand-Arts Classes. These classes allow participants to immerse themselves in historic skills and crafts that were vital to early settlers’ lives. The programs run from October 2024 through May 2025, including engaging topics such as:
- Cast Iron Cooking: Then and Now! – October 10, 2024
- Christmas Lore and Syllabub – November 14, 2024
- All Things Hearts! – February 13, 2025
- The Bicentennial of Allen County – March 13, 2025
- A Stitch in Time! – April 10, 2025
- Chief Richardville House – May 8, 2025
Each class is priced at $20, and advanced registration is required. Participants aged 14 to 18 must attend with an adult. Sessions begin at 9:30 AM and run until 11:30 AM, with doors opening at 9:00 AM. For details, contact Denise Keane at 260-413-4413.
Event Highlights at the Swinney Homestead
The Swinney House offers several special events throughout the year. Notably, the 1844 Swinney House Open House is scheduled for September 7 and 8, 2024. During this event, visitors can explore the house from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, free of charge. This open house coincides with the West Central Historic Homes Tour.
Another exciting event is the Settlers’ Pioneer Village at the Johnny Appleseed Festival on September 21 and 22, 2024. Costumed Settlers will demonstrate historic hand arts, allowing attendees to experience life as a pioneer.
Celebrate the Holidays at Swinney Homestead
The Swinney Sisters’ Christmas ‘At-Home’ Tea will take place on December 6 and 7, 2024, between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. It promises to be a festive celebration, showcasing traditional holiday customs and delights.
Looking Ahead: 2025 Open House
On May 2, 2025, the Swinney Homestead will host another Open House from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Visitors can discover new Historic Hand-Art Classes and programs for the upcoming 2025-2026 season. Memberships for Settlers, Inc. will also be available for purchase during this event.
