Exhibits and Events
One of the highlights of the Quilters Hall of Fame is its annual exhibits. This year, visitors can enjoy the final exhibit titled “Holiday Splendor,” which opens on December 15, 2024. This special showcase features the stunning quilt collection of Pat and Arlan Christ. It presents a vibrant palette of red and green, accented by other colors, reminiscent of mid-19th-century designs. These quilts hold immense historical significance as they have been passed down as family heirlooms, lovingly crafted by generations of quilters.
The “Holiday Splendor” exhibit not only displays beautiful art but also honors the legacy of quilting, illustrating how these pieces have been treasured over time. Each quilt in the exhibit represents a unique story and the skills of those who made them.
Closure for Winter
It is important to note that the Quilters Hall of Fame will be closed during the winter months, from December 15, 2024, to February 18, 2025. This seasonal break will allow the museum to prepare for future exhibits and ensure an excellent experience for all visitors in the upcoming year.
Ongoing Renovations
The museum is currently undergoing renovations to enhance the visitor experience. Notably, the installation of custom-made front doors and twelve new windows has already been completed. Additionally, a new HVAC system is in the works, thanks to generous community support. These improvements demonstrate a commitment to preserving not just quilting history but also the building itself, which once served as the home of Marie Webster, an influential quilt designer in the early 20th century.
Funding for these projects has been made possible through various local and state organizations, including the Baltimore Applique Society and the Indiana Arts Commission. The Quilters Hall of Fame appreciates the support of its patrons and partners in its mission to celebrate the art of quilting.
