Located in the historic city of Winnfield, the Louisiana Political Museum & Hall of Fame is a unique destination dedicated to preserving and celebrating the state’s rich political heritage. This museum is the only one of its kind in the world, attracting visitors from all 50 states and 18 foreign countries. Housed in the historic L & A Railroad Depot, dating back to 1905, the museum opened its doors on August 30, 1993, to coincide with the 100th birthday of famed Louisiana politician Huey P. Long.

A Historic Venue

The L & A Railroad Depot was donated to the City of Winnfield by the L & A Railroad Company in 1988. After five years of dedication from volunteers and generous donations of labor, materials, and finances, the Louisiana Political Museum was established. In 2003, the museum was officially adopted into the Louisiana State Museum system, ensuring that its mission continues. This mission focuses on providing scholarly resources while showcasing intriguing memorabilia related to Louisiana’s political history.

Induction into the Hall of Fame

Since its opening, the Louisiana Political Museum has recognized more than 170 individuals by inducting them into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame. These honorees are celebrated for their significant contributions and achievements in Louisiana politics. The Hall of Fame serves as a testament to the influence and legacy of these remarkable political figures.

Exhibits and Memorabilia

The museum boasts thousands of fascinating artifacts that encapsulate Louisiana’s political journey, from its pioneering leaders to contemporary officials still in service. Among the unique items on display is a 1951 Chevrolet sedan that belonged to Louisiana Governor Earl K. Long. This car was used as his campaign vehicle in the 1950s and featured a high-powered speaker system for efficient outreach. Additionally, it made an appearance in the film “Blaze,” which was shot in and around Winn Parish, Long’s home area.
