History of the Ernestina-Morrissey

The SSV Ernestina-Morrissey was built in 1894 at the James and Tarr Shipyard for the Gloucester fishing fleet. Under the guidance of Captain Bob Bartlett, the schooner sailed to within 600 miles of the North Pole. Afterward, it played a crucial role in transporting immigrants to the U.S. The vessel was returned to the United States in 1982 as a gift from the newly independent Cape Verdean people. From then until 2005, it served as an educational platform, fostering a deep appreciation for maritime history.
