Discover the Montrose Area Historical Association Museum
The Montrose Area Historical Association Museum, officially known as the Montrose Historical & Telephone Pioneer Museum, is a hidden gem located in Montrose, Michigan. This community treasure has been a vital part of preserving the local history since opening its doors to the public in May 1990. Admission to this fascinating museum is free, thanks to the generous support of the Jennings Foundation.
History of the Museum
Housed in a building constructed in 1956, the museum was originally home to Wyman Jennings’ Public Service Telephone Company. It features a unique drive-in window, a service that allowed customers to pay their bills conveniently. After selling the company in 1972, Jennings’ legacy continued when the building was donated to the Montrose Historical Association in 1989 by Century Telephone Enterprises. Since then, the museum has served to showcase not only telephone history but broader Montrose artifacts.
