Jones Lecture, featuring entomologist and author Doug Tallamy. His lecture, titled “Homegrown National Park,” addresses the importance of restoring ecological balance in privately owned lands. A follow-up discussion, “Saving Nature in Your Yard,” will be offered in collaboration with the City of Columbia Office of Sustainability, highlighting practical steps homeowners can take to enhance local ecosystems.

In addition to special events, the garden emphasizes the importance of native flora. Jenna Sommer, MU Horticulture Manager, recently completed the Missouri Grow Native! Professional Certification Program. Her expertise helps guide visitors on utilizing native plants effectively within their landscapes. A New Era with Leadership Changes

With the appointment of Joe Kovolyan as the new director of Landscape Services and the Mizzou Botanic Garden on April 1, 2023, the garden is poised for continued growth and success. Kovolyan, an Ohio native with over 25 years of experience, brings fresh perspectives and energy to the garden’s mission and operations.
