Seasonal Operations and Events
The Whippany Railway Museum operates seasonally, offering visitors unique experiences that bring railroad history to life. The 2024 season was particularly successful, highlighted by events such as the popular “Pumpkin Patch Trains” held on October 5, 6, 12, and 13. These excursions provided guests with delightful rides, allowing families to enjoy a festive atmosphere while learning about railway history.
Special Collaborations and Heritage Events
Throughout its history, the museum has collaborated with organizations like NJ TRANSIT, enhancing the visitor experience. In 2024, NJ TRANSIT sent its Central Railroad of New Jersey “Heritage” diesel unit No. 4109 to participate in the museum’s “CNJ DAY” event. This collaboration underscored the importance of preserving and celebrating New Jersey’s railway legacy. Another highlight was the display of the Lackawanna Subscription Club Car No. 2454 at Hoboken Terminal on September 15. This marked a significant return for the car, as it had not been seen at Hoboken since the retirement of the famed “Lackawanna Electrics” MU cars in 1984.
