The Greenville Museum of Art (GMoA) is an enriching cultural space located in Greenville, North Carolina. Aphorisms & Verses Exhibition
This exhibition is on view from November 15, 2024, to January 3, 2025. It showcases the intersection of visual and literary arts, focusing on inspiration and collaboration. Visitors can explore lithographs by social realist artist Ben Shahn. Shahn’s pieces in this exhibition are taken from his 1968 series For the Sake of a Single Verse, which draws inspiration from the works of Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke.
In addition to Shahn’s work, the Commons Gallery features serigraphs by Marvin Saltzman. These include the Paint the Window Purple portfolio, created in 1963 with poet Ronald Bayes, as well as the Chapel Hill Gravel portfolio made between 1970-75, in collaboration with five different poets. This exhibition not only displays stunning artwork but also provides creative opportunities for audience interaction.
