The Mineral & Lapidary Museum of Henderson County invites you to discover the beautiful world beneath your feet. This museum has been designed as a resource for education and exploration, focusing on geology and paleontology. Located in Hendersonville, North Carolina, it showcases the remarkable diversity found within our planet’s crust.

The museum features a wide range of exhibits. Visitors can admire specimens of raw minerals displayed in their natural state alongside polished gemstones. One of the highlights includes displays of minerals found in Henderson County and across North Carolina, a state known for its diverse mineral deposits.
Special Highlights
Among the popular exhibits are the Hendersonville meteorite display and a vibrant collection of fluorescent minerals. For younger audiences, the fossil displays are particularly exciting. These include fascinating casts of a tyrannosaurus rex skull, a mastodon tusk and teeth, and a woolly mammoth leg bone. Visitors will quickly realize that there is significantly more under our feet than just dirt and rocks.
Visit Us and Get Involved
The Mineral & Lapidary Museum operates as a non-profit organization and is run primarily by volunteers. Admission to the museum is free, although donations and purchases from the gift shop are appreciated, as they help sustain the museum’s operation.
The current hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The museum will observe extended hours during the Apple Festival over the Labor Day weekend. It is closed on major holidays, including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Thanksgiving Day, but remains open on Memorial Day, Labor Day, and the Fourth of July.
