The Hall of Fame serves as a tribute to those whose legacies inspire both current and future generations of sports enthusiasts.
Our Mission and History
The mission of the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame is clear: to recognize and educate the community about the remarkable achievements made in local sports. Established under the guidance of Bill Dooley, the museum held its inaugural induction ceremony in 2006. Each year, the GWSHOF hosts the Legends Induction Banquet to honor four or five distinguished individuals selected from a long list of nominees.
Inductees and Their Impact
The selection process is meticulous and aims to highlight those who have made a profound impact on athletics within the region. In 2025, the Hall of Fame will honor five new inductees: Scott Braswell, Kimberly Crabbe, Tommy Craig, David Miller, and Jerry Wainwright. Each of these individuals represents the spirit of sportsmanship and excellence, contributing to the rich fabric of the Wilmington sports community.
Community and Support
As a non-profit organization, the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame relies on the support of its Board of Directors and the goodwill of the local community. Sponsors play a crucial role in helping the GWSHOF achieve its objectives by facilitating events and initiatives that promote local sports history. The community’s involvement is vital, as it underpins the efforts to recognize these outstanding figures in athletics.
