Adena State Memorial: A Glimpse into Ohio’s Historical Heritage

Adena State Memorial, located in Chillicothe, Ohio, is a remarkable museum dedicated to preserving the legacy of Thomas Worthington, Ohio’s sixth governor. This 2000-acre estate, originally built in the early 19th century, offers visitors a unique chance to step back in time. The mansion was completed in 1807 and has been meticulously restored to reflect its original grandeur, featuring many of the Worthington family’s furnishings.

The Historic Mansion

The mansion at Adena State Memorial is notable for being one of only three surviving houses designed by the esteemed architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe. The remaining 300 acres of the estate includes several charming outbuildings and beautifully landscaped formal gardens.

Visiting Adena State Memorial

Adena State Memorial is managed by the Adena Mansion & Gardens Society on behalf of the Ohio History Connection. The museum is open for visitors from the first Wednesday in April through the last Saturday in October. Operating hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 12 PM to 5 PM. Visitors should note that the last tour begins at 3:30 PM.
