Discover the Winter Solstice Celebration

On December 21st, Sunwatch Indian Village will host its much-anticipated Winter Solstice celebration. This event marks the shortest day of the year, and attendees are invited to watch the sunrise at 7:55 AM. As the sun rises, the Center Pole in the village casts a shadow through the doorway of the Solstice house, creating a stunning visual that highlights the significance of this date for the ancient SunWatch people.

During the celebration, visitors can enjoy free admission from 7 AM to 12 PM, making it an excellent opportunity to immerse themselves in this historic experience. Regular admission applies from 12 PM to 4 PM. To enhance the morning experience, the museum will offer complimentary coffee and donuts for attendees watching the sunrise.

Sunwatch Indian Village has humble beginnings that showcase a significant part of Dayton’s heritage. The museum is part of the Dayton Society of Natural History, which is dedicated to preserving and sharing the region’s natural and cultural history through engaging exhibits and programs.
