Located in the charming town of Alpine, Texas, the Historic Alpine Museum serves as a testament to the region’s vibrant heritage. City and County Histories on Display

A significant addition to the museum’s offerings is the Wall of Pioneers, where two newly installed plaques commemorate the histories of Alpine and Brewster County. The easternmost pillar displays a brief history of Alpine, while the westernmost pillar highlights the heritage of Brewster County. These plaques, crafted from cast aluminum, feature metal colored lettering against a dark background, making them visually striking and informative.

Former Historic Alpine President, Kip Sullivan, revealed plans for future installments, stating that additional plaques honoring the pioneer families of the region will be created. The data for these plaques is being compiled by Carol Lewis, a dedicated board member, ensuring accuracy and depth in the historical records. Once completed, this invaluable documentation will be stored in the Archives of the Big Bend at Sul Ross State University, serving as a resource for researchers and history enthusiasts alike.

Notably, the museum won the prestigious Presidential Preserve America Award, highlighting its commitment to educational programs and community involvement. The Wall of Pioneers project, which enhances the museum’s narrative, has been funded through local contributions and generous grants from the Union Pacific Railroad. Located between 5th and 6th Street alongside the Union Pacific Depot parking lot, the wall has become a focal point of community pride, representing the dedicated efforts of Alpine’s residents.
