Katy Heritage Society: Preserving the Spirit of Katy, Texas
Located in the heart of Katy, Texas, the Katy Heritage Society is a vibrant museum dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the community. Established in 1979, this museum plays a pivotal role in the educational and cultural development of Katy. Its mission is to preserve, restore, and display historical landmarks and artifacts distinctive to Katy and its surrounding areas.
Katy Heritage Park
One of the main attractions of the Katy Heritage Society is the spectacular Katy Heritage Park. This beautiful space is home to five historic Katy structures, each adorned with period-appropriate items that transport visitors back in time. The park includes a charming gazebo, providing shade and a lovely spot for picnics. The grounds are open for exploration from dawn until dusk, inviting families and individuals alike to enjoy the rich history of the area.
Visiting Us
The Katy Heritage Society encourages community engagement through its free tours of historic homes, available on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month from 12 PM to 4 PM. These tours are an excellent opportunity for visitors to understand the heritage of Katy intimately. Donations are welcomed and appreciated, helping to support the society’s ongoing efforts to maintain the museum.
Katy Railroad Park
Adjacent to the Katy Heritage Park is the Katy Railroad Park, another significant landmark that reflects the city’s rich history. The Katy Railroad Park is closely tied to the development of Katy, as the railroad was crucial for the town’s growth and prosperity. MKT Depot Museum
The MKT Depot Museum, located at 5615 1st St., is another iconic feature of the Katy Heritage Society. Open from Thursday to Saturday, from 10 AM to 5 PM, and on Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM, the museum offers free tours that showcase what shaped Katy into the city it is today. As with the park tours, donations are encouraged to continue supporting the society’s work.
