Summer Camp Offerings
Each summer, the SMART Center hosts a range of exciting summer camps designed to inspire young minds. In 2022, two standout camps were organized: the GEMS Camp and the Fun with Physics Camp.
GEMS Camp: Girls Enjoying Math and Science
Scheduled for July 11 and 12, 2022, the GEMS Camp invites girls entering grades five through eight to join in on the fun. This camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and offers a cost-free experience, with snacks and lunch provided for all participants. Sponsored by the Women’s Giving Circle of the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley, this camp encourages girls to explore their interests in STEM.
This year’s theme, “Pollution Solutions,” emphasizes the importance of understanding different types of pollution and the steps we can take to mitigate it. Participants will engage in interactive activities and experiments across various fields of science and engineering. Returning campers can expect new activities to keep the learning fresh and exciting.
Fun with Physics Camp
Following the GEMS Camp, the Fun with Physics Camp takes place on August 8 and 9, 2022. This camp caters to students entering grades three through seven, offering an array of hands-on activities focused on fundamental concepts in physics. From gravity to electricity and magnetism, campers will play with toys while learning about the physics behind them.
The Fun with Physics Camp aims to make learning enjoyable and engaging. All activities are designed to be safe and appropriate for each grade level. Participants will not only learn but also take home creations that showcase their experimental adventures.
